All’s Well In Athens

September 4, 2010 · Print This Article

It was an evening of “seconds” in Athens, with U2 playing its second-ever gig in Greece (also their first in thirteen years), “I Will Follow” being included in the setlist for the second time on the 360 Degrees tour, and the inclusion of a snippet of “Funky Town” before “I’ll Go Crazy If I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight”, the second time the song has been snippeted on the tour, after being debuted in Hannover.

Otherwise, the 23-song set strayed little from the comfortable pattern established so far on this leg.  As in Moscow, the new tunes debuted earlier on the tour were not to be found.

The tour continues Monday in Instanbul, Turkey.

This is possibly the worst setlist of the tour thus far. No Unforgettable Fire, No Ultraviolet, No new songs really, and yet they still play MLK, Walk On, and Crazy Tonight.

I usually dont complain about setlists, but im noticing a trend and i dont like it. Unforgettable Fire and Ultraviolet were highlights of the show last year. Crazy Tonight & Walk On, not so much. I would assume that Hold Me, Thrill Me would be a highlight of this leg of the tour, along with the new songs like Glastonbury, North Star, & Every Breaking Wave. But at the expense of Ultraviolet? Surely the band can find it in their hearts and 23 songs to include both UV and HMTMKMKM.

I dont mind when they “change it up” regarding the setlist, only problem here is, they are changing it up by basically “playing it safe”. And for the love of God, please quit playing Walk On.

I agree 100% – it’s a very disturbing trend that seems to be happening. The Unforgettable Fire in particular seems to be finished which is a real shame. Why they playing crap like In a Little While and not including UF and UV is beyond me…and please guys, for the love of God where’s Bad?!?!?!

I agree 110%! About time someone called a song off All that they can’t leave behind “crap”. Add Walk On to that. American smultch / slo mo b+w video. Where the hell is Breathe? Why is Moment of Surrender still played last (hardly the epic Vertigo ending of 2005 tour). What happened to No Line? Time to rest Beautiful Day and (shocker) One for a while as well. What’s wrong with the whole of Discoteque? New Years Day can be resurrected, as can The Fly and a Sort of Homecoming. UV was awonderful curve ball last year for which they should be proud, but this set list has a feeling of ‘so what’ about it. It’s great they are motivated to tour two years in a row, but this feels like a missed opportunity to freshen things up.

I actually love this version of In a Little While, it totally fits the theme of this tour. However, im with you on Bad and of course TUF and UV.

Got something to say?
